Share the road—Allen Clayton

I recently did a reporting story on bicycle safety in Monongalia County. As the weather warms in the county we get to see more and more students and adults alike bicycling around the area.

I was able to interview a local  resident Seth Mitchell who bicycles around Monongalia County year round. Mitchell says that “Bicycling in Morgantown, there’s a relatively low level of safety.”

Upon doing some research I found out that in 2009 more than 600 cyclists died on the roads in the US. Seventy four of those who died were fourteen years old or younger.

Official’s across the web said that it was important that bicycle owners wear protective gear, including helmets, and keep their bicycles in good working order by checking tire pressure, making sure the seat is secure, and the chain is oiled and tight.

Overall really enjoyed the weather and getting out there and working the street to talk to all the people who were out on their bicycles enjoying the weather.
